Ooty–Coorg family trip: plan and packing list for kids

Coffee estates, a palace and the toy train, paced so the kids enjoy it as much as you do.

6-day plan

• Day 1: Bengaluru to Coorg, with a stop at the Bylakuppe Golden Temple. Coffee estate stay.
• Day 2: Coorg. Abbey Falls, a plantation walk, Dubare and sunset at Raja's Seat.
• Day 3: Mysuru. Mysuru Palace, Chamundi Hill and Brindavan Gardens.
• Day 4: Forest drive through Bandipur and Mudumalai, then up to Ooty.
• Day 5: Ooty. Toy train to Coonoor, Botanical Garden, Doddabetta and boating on Ooty Lake.
• Day 6: Drive to Coimbatore or Bengaluru for your journey home.

Packing list for kids

• Light woollens and a warm jacket. Ooty evenings are cold all year.
• Caps, sunscreen and sunglasses for the day.
• Raincoat or umbrella in any season.
• Medicine for motion sickness. The roads to Ooty have many hairpin bends.
• Kids' regular medicines, a thermometer and plasters.
• Snacks, water bottles and wet wipes for the drives.
• Comfortable shoes for walks and the gardens.
• A small blanket or shawl for the car and the toy train.

Tips for parents

• Toy train seats sell out in peak season. We book early and confirm before you pay.
• Plan rest time every afternoon. Our itinerary keeps it free.
• Best months: October to June. Monsoon is green but wet, and some activities close.
